FROM the first shot at a driving range, Amir Malik was hooked on golf. But while he loved the sport from the start, he found some elements of the game did not love him back.
As a practising Muslim, he struggled with traditional clubhouse cultures of gambling and drinking alcohol. He suffered racism on the course.
For many, these experiences would have been enough to drive them from the sport. But Amir didn’t run away, instead he ran towards change.
Inspired to find other British Muslims who played golf, he launched the Muslim Golf Association to provide a safe space for those who shared his faith to enjoy the fairways and greens.
Now the MGA brings together hundreds of golfers every year through its events, has introduced thousands more through its taster sessions, and has become the poster child for accessibility and inclusion.
Hosted by Sky Sports Golf presenter Sarah Stirk, each month The GBQ Podcast brings you in-depth interviews and provides genuine analysis around the most important topics facing the golf industry.
Our aim is to ensure you hear from the people that matter as we talk with the game’s influential figures.
It’s been an incredible journey for Amir, but he has huge plans to expand coaching and to take the association and golf worldwide – and needs PGA help.
